These are called Memento Mori, and would probably the only photograph of the deceased, because at the time photography was still new thus expensive. These Memento's would be passed around to family members who may not have ever met the deceased person.

Exactly citer, a similar book was used in 'The Others'. At least someone is reminding this. One of my favorite creepy movies.

Freeky ......... Ive seen more then my share of dead people in my life some of them blown to pieces and these photo's freek me out more then anything else.

Recuerden q antes se creia que la fotografia guardaba o robaba el alma de aquel q se le fotografiaba, asi q me imagino q lo hacian creyendo q esa foto tendrian el alma de su ser querido.
