The worst oil disaster in the history of mankind

The explosion on the British Petroleum (BP) Deepwater Horizon rig about which we have written here has led to disastrous consequences.
Every day, 800 thousand liters of oil continue to pour into the waters of Gulf of Mexico. This is the most terrible thing that happened in the history of oil production.

30 years ago the oil well Ixtoc 1 had a blowout in the Gulf that was releasing 3-6 times the amount of oil than the current Deepwater Horizon incident.

It took 91/2 months to cap.

in european deep water oil drilling, they have to use a fail safe valve which is very expensive. In the Gulf of Mexico this valve was not used

the current oil spill is not close to the worst oil spill in history. So far about 3 million gallons has escaped. Exonn Valdez was 11 million & the spill caused by the Iraqi army in Kuwait in 1991 was 36 BILLION gallons. That is the worst ever. The current spill will have to be 12,000 times greater that is has been so far to become number 1.
