That's just some gauze with medicine in it. If you take a close look from the second pic down, you'll see that something caught his finger under the nail on the bottom and just rolled the skin down. They rolled it back up and sewed it together. And, in the 4th pic you'll see that whatever tore the skin on his finger also dug a place out in his wrist that they had to sew up.

Aside from the natural numbness, he was given some shots so he couldn't feel what was going on. So, no biggie. In the last pic, you can see that his finger has healed PLUS he got a can of FANCY apple juice and another of something else. LOL
