Hey GOODSTUFF - good stuff! Considering what just happened at the G20 in Toronto, we Canadians must look at what has happened to what we feel is Freedom in our country. It was a sad day for our proud country when we see our freedom of assembly and peaceful protest eroded so drastically by our police just because a couple of hundred "black bloc" cowards got violent. Hundreds of bystanders and legitimate protesters were arbitrarily arrested and imprisoned without access to a lawyer of proper food or water or toilet facilities for long periods of time. Not to mention police brutality and beatings. A sad day for my country. Never again. And DON'T EVER ALLOW G20 TO COME TO YOUR CITY. Such conferences, if they must be held at all should never be held in a city center. Totally unnecessary.

bagums,
Yeah... the violent edge of the protesters always get the media attention, but the truth is that Canada (secretly) passed laws to clamp down on free speech rights a few days before the G20. These measures allowed for the detention of people who, even without probably cause on the part of the police, failed to identify themselves.

The measures expired right after the G20.

In other words, Canada changed its laws in order to deny people the right to protest at this ONE event..

Yikes.

On the issue of the G20 conference, it is important to remember the role politicians played in this matter. The police were simply there effect the laws that were specifically introduced to get the measure of control they felt were required. The media did the rest of the dirty work.
So, as a Canadian you have no need to feel bad about yourself because this issue is developing all around the world such as Greece recently. Treat your vote with respect and exercise it!!
